Forbidden City

Located in the heart of Beijing, the Forbidden City, open to all tourists, is known as Gu Gong in China as the former imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Forbidden City, now popular as the Palace Museum, is located north of Tiananmen Square. The rectangular Forbidden City is the biggest palace in the world, covering 74 hectares of land. Surrounded by a wall of 10m high and 6m deep ditch, the Forbidden City is composed of 9999 buildings. The wall in the Forbidden City includes a door on each of its parts, the door Might Devine, which is located opposite the gate of Tiananmen Square, opposite the Jingshan Park. The distance between the door and Devine Might Tiananmen Gate is 960 m. closely designed towers are present on all four corners of the wall in the offer remarkable views of the palace and its surroundings. The outer courtyard or the southern part and the inner courtyard or the north, are two parts of the Forbidden City. The outer courtyard was used by the emperor for carrying out his royal duties and the inner courtyard was the royal residence. Until 1924,

fourteen emperors of the Ming dynasty, and ten emperors of the Qin dynasty has ruled over the Forbidden City until the expulsion of the last Chinese emperor. Being the royal palace for about five centuries, the Forbidden City in Beijing is home to some of the richest cultural and historical treasures. The Palace Museum of the Forbidden City is one of the most famous tourist attractions of China; the Forbidden City was accredited in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage cultural site.

The palace began to be built in 1407 during the 5th year of the Ming Dynasty Yongle reign of the third emperor. Millions of workers as well as 100000 artisans worked to complete the construction of the Forbidden City in 14 years. Stones were brought from a quarry in Fangshan and wood and other essential products have been reduced from distant places in China. One of the most remarkable features that were created by skilled artisans is the giant red town wall that is 8.6m wide at the base broad and 6.66m above. The bricks composed of glutinous rice and white lime and cement is a mixture of egg white and glutinous rice make the wall exceptionally strong. Yellow is the main color used in the Forbidden City, the roofs are made of sparkling yellow tiles and decorations of the palace insiders are yellow. Only the royal library contains a black roof which is the symbol of Chinese water that could ignite.
