Xiushui
Dongjie, is a shopping mall in Beijing, which was established
in place of an old silk market. The place is also known
popularly as silk or silk Street Alley. It is one of the
most popular tourist destinations of Beijing and ranks
just after the Palace Museum and the Great Wall. Xiushui
Dongjie houses at the moment about 1700 retail outlets
organized in 7 floors. The basement of the mall itself
has three levels. The old silk market alley was demolished
in January 2006 and a new contract was introduced in March
of that year. The Xiushui Dongjie stores are notorious
throughout the world for the sale of fake versions of
famous brands of clothing. The low prices of clothing
attract locals and visitors to this market.
In addition to clothing, products sold
by the stores include Xiushui Dongjie, silk fabrics and
fashion accessories such as shoes, hats, belts, handbags
and sportswear. The new Silk Market Street differs from
the former in the variety of products sold. The market

favourable in the shopping mall in Xiushui Dongjie is that it
is easily accessible for tourists. This is the cause behind the
heavy footfall that the market experiences everyday. During the
week, the market is visited by about 20000 people per day, while
the weekend it is, about 50000 to 60000 people who visit Xiushui
